Welcome friends and pupils to the New Year!
A great big pat on the back for all pupils who took part in the Christmas productions. We have had many messages of congratulations from friends and relatives who came to see the shows during the last few weeks of school. I really think that the standard of singing and performing from our pupils have exceeded all our expectations!
This term Mr Clarke’s children will be taking part in Switch On Sound on Tuesday afternoons. Children from The Birches will be visiting and working with some of our children in the music room. This terms module is ‘Gospel Sounds’ so lets hope we can raise the roof with our singing talents!
Year 6 children will begin Block 4 recorders this term, that means that during their weekily music lesson they will be using the recorders so PLEASE try and remember your number! We should be concentrating on reading music and introducing the notes on the right hand for most of the lessons.
I know it’s a long way off yet but I am beginning to plan the performances for this years Easter Music Showcase, so any children who have an idea that they wish to expand on please come and see me in the music room.
Extra- curricular activities will continue as normal, any children wishing to begin these after school lessons must remember to make sure that a responsible grown up can pick them up at the end of the session.
And finally……..Well done to all those children who came on our music trip to the MEN Arena for the Young Voices Concert. It was a fantastic experience and all the children showed excellent behaviour throughout the duration of the trip. I was so impressed that I sent a letter home to all the children’s famillies expressing our delight and pride on that day.
Keep singing and enjoying music!

Welcome back to all our children!! And a big “Hello” to children and parents who are new to Haveley Hey!
- This term Year 4 children will begin Block 3 recorder lessons in their regular weekly music lesson.
- Year 4 children also will experience Steel Pan lessons this year.
- We have a new School Steel Band who will begin rehearsing on a weekly basis (made up of Years 4, 5and 6 children)
- Year 5 children will experience violin lessons this year.
- 2 groups of Year 6 children will begin advanced violin lessons.
Last year our children took part in Switch On Sound. This was a music project bringing our children and children from the Lancasterian School together to learn about music from other cultures and then to perform in a concert for friends and family. Last year our children performed at The Forum, the Zion Centre in Hulme and at the Lancasterian School. This year we are using our school as a base for this project and we will be working with children from The Birches School.
Mrs Osguthorpe’s class have been chosen to take part in the Young Voices Concert at the MEN Arena this Christmas so they will be receiving their music packs and will begin rehearsals as soon as possible. They will be singing with children from other schools in the North West area. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity where your child will be singing with a choir made up of 5,000 children!!! Parents will be able to buy tickets for this concert soon, so watch this space!
Extra curricular music lessons will be as follows;
- Tuesdays- 3.30pm- 4.15pm Drumming lessons ( 8 pupils max)
- Wednesdays- 3.30pm- 4.15pm Beginners Recorders (Year 3 upwards)
- Thursdays- 3.30pm- 4.15pm Advanced Recorders
Unfortunately we can no longer offer Steel Pan lessons as an extra curricular activity.
Let’s have a great year!
